II - The High Priestess

After The Magician learns to use the tools before him, the journey pauses with The High Priestess. She reminds us that not every answer comes through action. Some truths are revealed only through stillness, patience, and observation.
While The Magician teaches us to create and to use the tools we HAVE, The High Priestess teaches us to receive and know that which we have is right for us.
Many beginners memorize The High Priestess as "intuition" or "inner knowing," and while those meanings are true, her deeper lesson is about learning to trust the wisdom that exists beyond logic. She asks us to listen before we speak, observe before we act, and recognize that not everything needs an immediate answer.
Some of the questions the High Priestess asks:
• What am I sensing that I haven't yet acknowledged?
• Am I searching for answers outside myself when I already know the truth?
• What would happen if I became comfortable with not knowing everything right away?
Symbols to Notice:
The Crescent Moon
Resting at her feet, the moon reminds us that our intuition often begins as a quiet feeling before it becomes clear. Like the moon's phases, understanding unfolds over time.
The Scroll
Partially hidden beneath her robe, the scroll represents sacred knowledge. Not every lesson is meant to be shared immediately. Some wisdom must first be experienced.
The Two Pillars
The black and white pillars represent duality—light and shadow, conscious and unconscious, logic and intuition. The High Priestess sits between them, reminding us that truth often exists in the balance rather than in extremes.
The Blue Robe
Her robe resembles water, representing emotion, intuition, and the subconscious. It reminds us that our inner world is just as important as the outer one.
When The High Priestess appears in a reading, ask:
"What truth am I aware of, but hesitant to trust?" "Am I seeking certainty when this moment is asking me to embrace mystery instead?"
Tarot is not about predicting a fixed future. It is a tool for self-reflection, awareness, and understanding the patterns unfolding in our lives.
In my Tarot classes, we go beyond memorizing card meanings. I encourage my students to spend time observing each card before opening the guidebook. Together we explore the numerology, archetypes, and connections that transform individual cards into a meaningful story—one that often reveals truths we already knew deep within ourselves.
